On June 2, 2017 5 After Midnight released their debut Single Up In Here.
5 After Midnight aka Kieran Alleyne, Jordan Lee and Nathan Lewis finished third behind Matt Terry and Saara Aalto on last year’s X Factor, and have been touted as possible successors to previous group show alumni JLS, One Direction and Little Mix.
They’ve now released their first debut single Up In Here today (June 2), which saw the group join singer-songwriters MNEK and Raye in the studio to concoct a party anthem which samples rap royalty
Metro.co.uk
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk about the single, band member Kieran said: ‘MNEK and Raye saw us on the show and enjoyed our vibe and we had a session from that.
‘We were going through samples, and all three of us were like “that’s the one right there”. There was no argument about it, everything just fell together and we really feel like it represents who we are.’
The tune means, aside from Matt Terry’s winner’s song, they’re the first act from last year’s X Factor to jump out the gate.
We’ve not even processed the fact we came third on the show yet,’ Kieran added. ‘We’ve not had a moment to sit down and go “okay that happened”.
A large reason for this is the mammoth X Factor tour which takes place following the show, but have they kept in contact with their mentor Louis Walsh?
‘We’ve had the odd bit of contact,’ Nathan said. ‘We owe a lot to him, he was our mentor so there’s definitely a hat tip there.
Obviously Simon [Cowell] is very much across our board, he’s very heavily involved in our project, and I know the two of them are very close, so I’m sure Louis is still seeing what’s going on.’
They have some pretty bold aspirations for potential dream collaborators too, including Little Mix and Stormzy to showcase what the UK can do.
5 After Midnight are set to release their debut album later this year.
